Western Australia is currently experiencing a shortage of the flu vaccine.

This means if you are not eligible for a “free” vaccine we do not have the flu vaccine available.

You can try contacting Pharmacies to see if they have any stock.  If you are an adult you may be able to have the flu vaccine administered at the Pharmacy. (children must go to their GP Surgery to administer)

If the Pharmacy is unable to administer, ask them to hold the flu vaccine for you. Phone the Surgery and request a script from the Doctor which will take 24 hours and make an appointment with the Nurse to administer the vaccine.  You will need to collect the script and get the vaccine prior to your appointment with our Nurse.

The following are eligible for a free vaccine:

• Pregnant women
• people aged 65 years of age and older
• Aboriginal Australians aged at least 6 months but less than 5 years; or 15 years and older
• Individuals aged 6 months and older with medical conditions that put them at risk of severe influenza, including:
• Heart disease
• Chronic respiratory conditions
• Chronic diseases requiring medical follow-up or hospitalisation in the past year
• People with weakened immune systems
• Children aged 6 months to 10 years receiving long term aspirin therapy
• Children aged from 6 months to under 5 years of age are eligible for a free vaccine in WA

 

 

 

The annual flu vaccination is the best way to prevent yourself from getting the flu, and from then passing it on to someone else.  Flu vaccination is very important for people who are at-risk of complications from influenza, and for those in close contact with at-risk people.

The flu is very easy to spread, especially when in close contact with other people.  You can catch it when an infected person coughs or sneezes as they release small virus-containing droplets into the air.

Below are tips on how to be practice being flu smart:

• Practice good cough and sneeze etiquette!
• Turn away from other people
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve
• Use disposable tissues rather than a handkerchief (which could store the virus)
• Put used tissues into the nearest bin, rather than a pocket or handbag
• Wash your hands or use an alcohol hand rub as soon as possible afterwards.
• Hand washing can limit the spread of influenza and other respiratory virus infections. Always wash your hands – even when they are not visibly dirty:
• After coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose
• After being in contact with someone who has a cold or flu
• Before touching your eyes, nose or mouth
• Before preparing food and eating.

Medicare rebates have been frozen since 2013 but our costs to run the Practice have continued to rise.

From 1 May 2019 fees for materials used in our Treatment Room will be charged.

Your Doctor will advise you of these costs prior to proceeding with your treatment.
